‘Hot Or Not’ Rises From The Ashes…or not

I have a confession to make. I once had my face up on ‘Hot or Not’. What? it was a social experiment. The site took off from the get go because it appealed to a smorgasbord of our baser instincts. Tech Crunch recently was crunching the numbers ( actually they were just reporting them) and it appears that the Hong brother who devised the site have $20million dollars each. After a few years of not messing with a good thing, they have recently made drastic changes. They switched from having paid premium memberships to being FREE. This is counter intuitive to me, but hey, their traffic went WAY up.

Imitators and tangential competitors were cutting into the profit margin. Making a drastic change that gets people talking might be just the trick to get people who have checked it out and moved on in years past to come back. Not me though I have moved on to KittenWar…for good.
