Siesta
Social conventions like the siesta developed in countries with hot climates. I always found it strange that there are many regions in the World that have a climate that would suggest a siesta, but that the thinking of the dominant culture prevents such a custom from being instituted for public business. The combined forces of immigration and global warming may soon change that.
Stopping business in the middle of the day has some costs and also some benefits.
I experienced extreme heat as a skilled worker in Canada during a half dozen record breaking days. The policy there is to give slightly longer breaks and provide cold beverages. My employer ran his production facility 24/7, so siesta wasn’t in his vocabulary.
