Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk

When I was a young man, I used to occasionally drive my girlfriend home from her volunteer stint at an extended care facility. On one of these occasions, I was met in the foyer by a woman who was in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s. She was convinced beyond all reason that I was someone near and dear to her and that I had come to take her home. It was heart breaking and I did not know how to deal with the situation.

This socially awkward moment was brief and surreal for me, but that poor woman was forced to live in a World in which facts, memories and time lines were blurred and mixed up.

Medical science has come a long way in regards to understanding this disease and there is hope for a cure. You can do your part by organizing or supporting an Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk in your area.
