Super Lice can’t leap over tall buildings and they can’t stop a speeding bullet. In fact they have to crawl from one human head to another just like regular head lice. The superpower that these new lice possess is resistance to all the commonly used insecticidal shampoos. This is a problem.

A few years ago, my family went through the scenario that is now being reported on the TV news… Your kid is sent home from school because he or she has head lice… You rush out to the drugstore to buy the toxic shampoo that is supposed to kill the little bugs… You read the very serious precautions on the bottle and then proceed to treat your child… Days later you see that it DIDN’T WORK.

When this happens, parents may be tempted to use the pesticides on their kids repeatedly. That’s a BAD IDEA. The toxins in these chemical treatments can be harmful to your children and resistant lice will be just as resistant (if not more) the 2nd or 3rd time around.

My wife pulled an all-nighter on the Internet after she realized that the shampoo hadn’t worked. She devised a strategy based on all of the available information and we set to work fighting these super lice. As with most comic book stories, good triumphed over evil in the end (in case you’re confused, we’re good and the lice are evil).
