No Change in Alexa Rank for a Whole Week

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

My simple contest involved getting people to check my site often in the hopes of winning $10 by leaving a comment first after my ALEXA drops below 1,000,000. The details are HERE.

One commenter suggested that ALEXA updates 2 or more times per week. I was under the impression that is was closer to once a week. It has now been almost a week since I started the contest and there has been no change in my rank. Something tells me today might be the last day of the contest. I have been getting a lot of traffic from Google after my post about Evil.

Is Alexa Updating Scheduled?

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

I am having a contest. It is very simple. The first person to comment on the blog AFTER my Alexa drops below 1,000,000 gets $10. I have read in different places that Alexa is updated weekly but that it is not on a strict schedule.

The point of this contest is to get traffic to this blog.

Contest Starts Now!!!

Friday, June 1st, 2007

If you are looking at my ALEXA widget on my sidebar today, the first day of June, 2007, it says my rank is 1,061,030

Since there is a long held tradition of having fanfare and a prize for the 1,000,000th customer at retail outlets, I thought I would tie my contest into the inevitable moment when my site’s stats drop below 1,000,000.

The first person to congratulate me in comment form on this blog on achieving this goal will get $10 in their PayPal from yours truly. Please include the exact Alexa rank in your comment, I don’t want to give my money away to a dishonest person.

I moderate comments, but if you leave me a short one now saying something like ‘I’m in, dude’, I will approve you so the next one goes right in.

1,000,000 makes some people very excited, see below:

Alexa Poised To Reach a Milestone

Monday, May 21st, 2007

No big news really, I’m just noting the fact that the Alexa ranking of this site is set to finally drop below a million. My experience with another blog has been that adding the Alexa widget and taking part in a normal amount of blogosphere social networking will quickly get your number below 500,000. As you rise in the ranks, gains are much harder to earn. I have a blog in the neighborhood of 300,000 and it is updated multiple times every day and I take part in lots of self promotion. I used to get improvements of over 10,000 every time Alexa updates. Now it is more like 3,000.

Alexa works quite a bit like the Nielson ratings, except for one crucial difference, if you find out about a group of people that have the Alexa toolbar, you can shamelessly target them, thus giving your website a misleadingly good ranking.

Do Follow

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Do Follow refers to a current trend of removing the do not follow tags from the comment sections of blogs.

Doing this encourages commenting because the commentor gets a link back to the url of his or her choice that counts.

When a everyone in a community of bloggers moves to do follow, everybody wins as far as Google PR and various traffic rankings.

Some people are choosing to comment as frequently as possible on do follow blogs and even join up with an all do follow blogroll WITHOUT actually removing their own do not follow tags.

I have downloaded a plugin that changes WP blogs to do follow. As of this writing, it is not yet on Slamboard. I have do follow operating on TotalDismay.com.

Alexa’s on Fire !

Friday, April 13th, 2007

My Alexa for this site has seen a marked improvement. The only things that I have done, aside from regular content, is asking a popular blogger to post about my blog in exchange for participating in a theme and linking to her blog.
