Win a $20,000 Home Makeover!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

If you are a homeowner who enjoys entering contests, you owe it to yourself to enter to win the $20,000 Home Makeover contest at www.triscents.com. This is a bit of a challenging contest. They want you print out an online coupon. They want you to go get the product from a local supplier. They want you to use the product in your home. Ok, here is where you have to get creative. They want you to make a video or photo and essay show and tell that explains why your home needs to get a makeover from Renuzit Tri Scents and Tanya Memme.

The more convincing your explanation and demonstration of why your home needs a makeover and why Renuzit TriScents can help, the better your chances of winning. Keep in mind that you must show your home in the video or photographs in order to be eligible. If I could, I think I would enter to win this contest.

There are a lot of boring details about making sure your video is less than 2 minutes long and all the stuff about file types and stuff. Make sure you see official rules. It would be a shame to embarass yourself on video and not be eligible because of some small detail. I don’t reside in the USA, so you don’t have to worry about my mad video making skills.

My Garage Floor

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

floor.JPGCarGuyGarage.com wants some bloggers to show their garage floors and I am happy to oblige. I can’t take credit for the most excellent decision to go with a resilient tile surface, I am renting. My dad has a much different surface in his garage, he poured the cement himself and his leveling and smoothing efforts were not of professional caliber. He is a farmer and does most of his own maintenance and repairs on his farm equipment. His garage floor has a lot of stains.

If you have a newly constructed garage with a bare cement floor, you should consider having it properly sealed so that any accidental oil spills will not permanently damage the surface.

Ecoglass.ca: High Tech Windows Save Energy

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Solar energy is really the only totally free energy source. One of the earliest technologies used to tap into this free source of light and heat was the window. The catch is that a while a pane of glass allows the suns rays into your home, the glass is very conductive and a lot of heat goes back out through the glass. Creating a window with several panes of glass glazed together improves efficiency, but it makes for a heavy, expensive window

Ecoglass.ca is a source for advanced window glass technology. Their HEAT MIRRORĀ® Insulating Glass has a special film that is tightly suspended between the panes of glass. this creates two separate airspaces inside the window. The film itself has a low-emissivity wavelength-selective coating. In a climate where you have both heating and cooling costs, both can be reduced by up to 25% with the installation of these windows.

As an added benefit, condensation problems are much reduced when you have windows with a high insulation rating.

Glass and Ceramic Tiles For Your Home

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

You can read this entire post before you make up your mind about AnchorBayTile.com, or you can just go look at pictures of really stunning kitchens and baths finished in glass tile, ceramic tile and other types of tile.

My present residence has tile floors throughout and ceramic tile in the kitchen and the bathroom. I love it. Tile is attractive and easy to clean. They are cool to the touch, which it great all summer. In the winter, we wear slippers. The counter tops in our kitchen are tile as well. Ceramic tile is not easily damaged by something like the bottom of a hot baking pan. I remember my mother’s counter tops telling a long family history of minor accidents. I don’t know what you call the material that were on her counters. I call it ‘That 70’s Composite Material.’

I have a neighbor that renovated and he installed an in-floor heating system under a beautiful tile floor. That has to be one of the most comfy homes that I have visited in ages. I always mention the option of in-floor heating to people who are planning new construction and tile is a great compliment to this home feature.

AnchorBayTile.com has a great variety of glass and ceramic tile and they provide flat rate shipping to 50 States. One unique offering that they feature is solid pewter accent tiles. The 2″ tiles come in over 130 different patterns.
