All that Glitters is Not Gold

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

While George Bush is busy not saying the word depression, the metals markets are getting busy. If you are a regular person and you want to make some money on the silver market, you need to work with a company like Monex Precious Metals. They can deliver metal to you or you can choose to have it held by a trusted financial institution. While many people prefer to actually have their hands on gold, the weights involved with silver and other less valuable metals make transport and storage less convenient.

Monex Precious Metals has been serving investors for over 30 years and their recent press release makes a strong argument in favor of buying silver.

I No Longer Aspire to YouTube Celebrity

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

YouTube has seen several waves of people who have found successful ways to become popular. I have expended a few hours over the last few years contemplating how I could accomplish YouTube celebrity.

This morning, I realized that I don’t want it anymore. It was one of those ‘Meh’ moments. Also, I am too old.

How to Profit from Real Estate

Monday, November 12th, 2007

I haven’t had the chance figure out what exactly the Trump University is all about. Donald Trump always gives me the impression that he is 51% Show and 49% Dough. He is still a player in the game of finance and his focus has often been on Real Estate.

This free report on the Best Real Estate Investment comes from TrumpUniversity.com and it could be worth a lot more than what you pay for it. I have recently read a book by another investment guru who agrees with Trump that income generating real estate is the very best investment you can make.

A house that you buy for yourself to live in is NOT an investment. That is a fallacy that has been a great disservice to many people, your own house is a liability.

Wizetrade Blog Review

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Corporate blogs are just now becoming a standard tool for marketing and customer service. The medium has some distinct advantages and Wizetrade is effectively using the medium with its blog.

The new blog allows fans of Wizetrade to interact with Wizetrade employees and executives. They can keep abreast of exactly what is going on with Wizetrade. Readers can examine and share views on the securities market.

There are also entertaining and instructive videos on the blog. One video uses swing dancing as an object lesson related to Wall Street terminology. The presenter is attractive, thus making it exponentially more entertaining.

Wizetrade has George Bush as a speaker at their big event this year. That’s pretty impressive.

Vvestor is Fantasy Investing

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Here is what Vvestor is in a nutshell:

Vvestor is a virtual online stock trading environment that allows experienced investors to test complex investment strategies, increase their familiarity with high volume and high-risk transactions, and develop a keener eye for discovering the next hot stock with absolutely no risk.

Personally, I think that this endeavor is less like Fantasy Football and more like a ’sandbox’.

I think that virtually everyone who figures out how to manage risk and make double digit gains in the stock market with pretend money is going to be using real money pretty quickly. I would suggest that users play in the realm of fantasy for several months after they think they have mastered the trading game and run an honest balance sheet on how they did.

Kiva Works

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Kiva is a website that provides very low interest loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. We have been supporting this model since late last year. Our experience from the lender side is exactly what is portrayed in this very well produced video.

I highly recommend participating in Kiva . The website is featuring another great video in which a NYT journalist visits his own loan recipient at a bakery in Kabul. Here is a PDF of his article.

Idea Sandbox

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Having a good idea, or rather thinking you have a good idea, can be stressful. I am lucky to have one human being who I trust to tell my ideas to. Having a joint bank account probably helps with that trust.

Anyway, what I am getting at is that any good business idea that relies on WOM buzz to help it take off is risky because somebody with more resources, or more connections, or somebody who is just stronger and faster than you…can just steal your idea. I wish there was some kind of arena in which to hash out ideas without worrying about having them stolen. I think it is a good idea, you can steal it if you want, because I don’t see how you could monetize it.

EDIT: There is a blog called Idea Sandbox. I don’t think it is much like the undeveloped thought that I had, the one that I have to find a new name for.

Calculated Risk in Real Estate Investment

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Since I don’t have the money to invest in real estate at the moment, I have a lot of hypothetical discussions about the subject. In the present economic climate, property investing is still profitable, but not in the grand way that it was a short time ago. There is even a fairly clear and present danger of losing money on an unwise investment.

Real Estate Genius is a web based investment property calculator. People really need to crunch the numbers these days to be able to tell the good income properties from the bad.

Real estate investing is often very time sensitive as well, so having a readily available software tool that can help you see the value or lack thereof quickly is vital.

As a seller, you can use the same information and tools to your advantage as well.
