A Blog About A Community

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Real Estate sometimes involves selling more than just an individual property. As I was coming back to our house with our break time snacks yesterday, I noticed that the real estate agent that had shown us our maisonette was escorting a group of people into a building just up the street from us. I mentally prepared myself to speak about my neighborhood in glowing terms. I would have been happy to do so and I would have been telling the truth.

Blog.YourDreamCommunity.com is a site that highlights the best of Asheville real estate and the best of the community of Asheville, North Carolina and the surrounding region. The Internet is making family incomes mobile for those who choose to pursue web based employment and web base revenues. The light bulb lit up for us about 4 years ago… we could live almost anywhere. I think this blog is a good approach to get people interested in home ownership in a place that offers the best of both worlds in that it has urban convenience and vibrancy, but residents are just a step away from the country.

The lake resort that was the set for Dirty Dancing is not far from Asheville. I’m sure there will be lots more fun facts like that once Blog.YourDreamCommunity.com really gets rolling.

How to Profit from Real Estate

Monday, November 12th, 2007

I haven’t had the chance figure out what exactly the Trump University is all about. Donald Trump always gives me the impression that he is 51% Show and 49% Dough. He is still a player in the game of finance and his focus has often been on Real Estate.

This free report on the Best Real Estate Investment comes from TrumpUniversity.com and it could be worth a lot more than what you pay for it. I have recently read a book by another investment guru who agrees with Trump that income generating real estate is the very best investment you can make.

A house that you buy for yourself to live in is NOT an investment. That is a fallacy that has been a great disservice to many people, your own house is a liability.

Vacation Rentals

Friday, November 9th, 2007

One of the best vacations of my life involves a vacation rental home in Prince Edward Island. We got a very good deal for a week during the shoulder season. In Eastern Canada it is a real crap shoot as far as post Labour Day weather is concerned, but we were very lucky.

We had a seemingly endless stretch of beach that was a reasonably short walk from our rented house. I picked blueberries for our pancakes. There was a family of red foxes that played on the beach at dusk. There was a gas fireplace with a remote control. There was a well stocked tea drawer. We bought a bunch of local seafood for a weekend feast.

I think that vacation rentals are better than hotels because they allow you to function in much the same way that you do at home. It’s basically like taking your home and removing all your responsibilities and annoying neighbors and then adding a beautiful location.

VLBO.com has some great places on their website. This Waterfront Vacation House in coastal Virginia looks fantastic and has many of the elements that I enjoyed so much about my vacation rental experience.

Comparing Loans

Friday, August 10th, 2007

I know a lot more about how to compare loans than I used to. I was recently trying to figure out exactly how those loan comparison calculators work, so I was experimenting with them by putting in all kinds of imaginary numbers to see how they would affect the outcome. This is tedious, but it is probably less stressful than being in a real situation where you are trying to work out your best debt consolidation strategy.

The writer over at ThriftyScot.co.uk cautions that secured loans place you at a greater risk of losing your home to the bank than unsecured loans. It’s depressing to put it in these terms, but the fact is that in certain economic climates banks don’t really mind being shifted over into the real estate business. The process of repossession in the event of non-repayment of an unsecured loan is complicated and banks are more likely to opt for a renegotiation of terms.

ePerks

Monday, July 30th, 2007

I am fascinated by ePERKS.com. From what I can see, it is set to become an ideal place to compare the perks being offered by businesses like automotive dealers, construction contractors and real estate agents. For example, I clicked on a dealer and saw that they are giving away plasma screen TVs with the sale of a car. Many of these deals are available exclusively through ePerks.

There is also a lot of communication going on on the site. People are asking pointed questions about housing markets. Car dealers are asking each other about stuff.

I did some more browsing and discovered that iPods are a popular perk. I have pretty much given up on getting an iPhone. Maybe I can get a top of the line iPod thrown in with some purchase at some point.

Live Where You Play, Play Where You Live

If country club members wore leather jackets, my post title would be a good motto to embroider onto them. I have had more than one conversation with men who made the decision to move into a home that looks out on a golf course. If you golf, this is a no-brainer. Even if you don’t golf, you should consider some of the advantages. Golf courses are generally very quiet neighbors, especially at night. I once lived next door to one of least prestigious golf courses on the planet I still loved it.

The Charlotte Luxury Homes at Longview are like another world. the best home construction you can get on beautiful lots adjacent to a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.

B-Dry in your Basement

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Along with roof leaks, basement leaks are one of the inevitabilities of home ownership that make me glad that I am renting.

I called my sister a few weeks ago and she was a bit bummed out because she had a moldy basement. A contractor investigated it and it turns out that it is a major concern. When I called her she hadn’t gotten any word from her insurer, so she had some hope that it would be a huge inconvenience rather than a huge inconvenience and a huge expense.

The B-Dry waterproofing system is a lifetime solution for problematic basements crawlspaces and foundations. If you went looking in your basement and you found a problem, you need to start looking for a solution. There are 60 independent licensees
and franchisees nationwide that can waterproof your basement with the B-Dry system.
